BPCL offers digital payment to non-Internet users

The oil company has become the first local industry player to offer this option to drivers and customers through a voice-based digital payment system.

Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) now offers its customers the option of paying without the need for internet access. BharatGas consumers can reserve their LPG cylinders through a new voice-based digital payment option.

Through a partnership with UltraCash Technologies, customers who do not have smart phones or the Internet can reserve their bottles and make payment through the government’s recently launched “UPI 123PAY” system. With the introduction of this technology, approximately 4 million BharatGas consumers in rural India will benefit.

“India still has a large majority of feature phone users. Moreover, even in urban areas, many users are looking for fully secure digital means of payment. With the Indian government also promoting the use of LPG through of programs such as Ujjwala yojana, this facility will help to further penetrate rural markets.Although this service can be used by anyone, it is mainly intended for users of phones without a function, but the ease and security of payments from UPI123PAY make it popular across all segments and users,” said Shri Santosh Kumar, Executive Director of BPCL.

BPCL became the first company in India to offer its services to consumers after the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India announced the launch of UPI 123PAY in early March. This initiative allows users who do not have a mobile phone to access the payment service via their landline. According to an official RBI press release published by local news site The Telegraph of India, it will enable the country’s 40 million landline users to make P2P payments, utility bill payments, a FASTag recharge and also to pay mobile bills.

“We are extremely excited to partner with BPCL on this incredible journey of bringing the next group of customers into the digital revolution. This innovative initiative by RBI and NPCI allows customers to pay and book in the easiest form of voice call,” added Shri Vishal Lal, Co-Founder of UltraCash.

UltraCash is a mobile payment application developed by UltraCash Technologies Pvt. ltd. and authorized by National Payment Corporation of India. The collaboration with Ultra Cash allows BharatGas customers to call the common number 080 4516 3554 from a phone without internet and reserve a BharatGas bottle for themselves or their friends in a few easy and secure steps.
