Bengaluru sees steady rise in Covid cases, health department on high alert
Bengaluru’s health department is on high alert after the city reported more than 100 Covid-19 cases daily for the past seven days. New Covid cases were reported in Bellandur, Hagadur, Varthur, HSR Layout, Doddanekkundi and Koramangala, localities with high population density, especially software professionals. Large IT companies are also located in these areas. Bengaluru ranks second in terms of infections in the country and the infection rate is 0.09% and the fatality rate is zero.

China reports 10,793 new COVID cases
Mainland China reported 10,793 new cases of COVID-19 on April 29, including 1,424 symptomatic cases and 9,369 asymptomatic infections, the National Health Commission said on Saturday. That was down from 15,688 new cases a day earlier, of which 5,659 were symptomatic and 10,029 were asymptomatic. There were 47 new deaths, all in the financial hub of Shanghai, bringing the toll to 5,022. Mainland China had 215,667 confirmed infections as of April 29, authorities said.

Russia makes last-minute bond payment to avoid default

Russia bans entry of public figures from Norway, Greenland, Ireland and the Faroe Islands
Russia has banned nine people from Iceland, three from Greenland, three from the Faroe Islands and 16 from Norway from entering the country in retaliation, the country’s foreign ministry said in a statement. The countermeasures were taken in response to decisions by Iceland, Norway and the Danish autonomies of Greenland and the Faroe Islands to join European Union sanctions against Russia, the ministry added on Friday.
