NRL Ballboy Becomes Viral Internet Sensation With Breaking Pace

The Melbourne Storm did put the Warriors to the sword this weekend.

With the score reading 70-10 full-time, there were clearly a few standout performers wearing purple that night.

But it looks like one person got some special attention for their blistering speed in one of the trials.

And no, it wasn’t one of the players.

An NRL ballboy became an overnight cult hero for keeping pace with Storm star Jahrome Hughes as the half-back burst through the defensive line to score a searing try.

The game’s opening try came less than 10 minutes into the game when Melbourne full-back Ryan Papenhuyzen recovered a loose ball on his own try line.

He then passed it to his colleague Hughes who ran the full length of the pitch before smashing the ball down.

It was a spectacular display of speed, but it was nothing compared to the young boy running along the sideline.

When footage of the tryout emerged online after the clash, eagle-eyed fans noticed a teenage ball boy with blond hair and a fresh face managing to keep up with Hughes as he headed for the line test.

I still don’t know why he did it, but nonetheless, it made for spectacular viewing.

Naturally, what followed was a slew of hilarious memes as fans flocked to social media to praise the youngster – with some even urging Storm boss Craig Bellamy to prepare a contract for the child.
